Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- An area of low pressure about 1025 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, near the coast of Africa, is getting stronger and could become a tropical depression in the next 24-48 hours.

    It's the stage before a hurricane. Katrina was a category 4 hurricane, not a tropical depression.
