Are people who have depression sad ALL the time?

So I'm pretty sure I have depression. I've taken numerous online tests and they all point toward it. I looked up causes of depression and I realize it could've stemmed from several things:

`Other factors, such as stresses at home, work, or school.

`People who have low self-esteem.

`People who are consistently pessimistic.

`People who are readily overwhelmed by stress.

`People who have had such as a serious loss, difficult relationship, or financial problem.

`Studies suggest that women experience depression up to twice as often as men.

And I have these symptoms:

`I've lost interest in the activities I used to enjoy.

`I feel tired almost every day.

`I have problems sleeping. I'm either sleeping too much or staying awake at night.

`My appetite has changed. I'm not eating enough, or I'm eating too much.

`My friends say I'm acting different. I'm either anxious and restless or lethargic.

`I feel worthless or hopeless.

`I'm having frequent headaches, stomach problems, muscle pain, or back problems.

`I find myself thinking a lot about dying.

Even though I'm so down most of the time, there are times when I have alot of fun and I'm happy, like when I'm around friends. could I still have depression even though I'm not sad constantly?

I suffer from depression & anxiety but I often find myself laughing and telling jokes. Even a lot of comedians suffer from depression. I.e. Jack dee, Stephen fry....

It could be bipolar disorder? Basically swinging between emotional highs and lows.

See a doctor and most importantly tell them EXACTLY how you feel and be honest. I went years of saying "I'm fine" which obviously was not true!

All the best

You hit the nail on the head. Depression is characterized by pervasive, not constant, sadness.

No, stomach inconvenience makes no sense. Stomach problems, however, indicates that there is some kind of problem with the stomach.
