Be Your Own Therapist

Google Tech Talks October 3, 2008 ABSTRACT We spend our lives being seduced by the outside world, believing without question that happiness and suffering come from "out there." In reality, Buddhist teachings explain that they come from the way we perceive and interpret things, not the things themselves. This deeply held misconception is at the root of our dissatisfaction, self-doubt, anger, depression, anxiety, and the rest. But our minds can change. By becoming deeply familiar with the workings of our own cognitive processes through introspection and learning to deconstruct them - truly, being our own therapists - we can loosen the grip of these neuroses and grow our marvelous potential for contentment, clarity, and courage, which are at the core of our being. Speaker: Venerable Robina Courtin A Tibetan Buddhist nun for 30 years, beloved teacher and power-house personality, Ven. Robina Courtin is Executive Director of Liberation Prison Project, based in San Francisco. (LiberationPrisonProject.org) A lifeline for people with nothing and no one, since 1996 Liberation Prison Project has supported the spiritual practice of over 15000 prisoners, mainly in the US and Australia. These days, the project spends $50000 every month, nearly half of it on salaries and benefits for a fulltime staff of ten (eight in the US and two in Australia, including three former prisoners), supported by a team of 150+ volunteers worldwide. Ven. Robina travels the world, teaching and raising funds ...

    Not a singal word in her talk is for herself but for us. People has the option to pick their path what they see as true. Hower your path/beleif is as big as your brain. This is the reality that cannot be seen throgh scientist's eye.

    Am 43 years and regret every year I wasn't muslim I hate myself when I remember how stupid ignorant I was and wasted half of my life in some wrong believes..my only advice for people to read before choosing any path read everything compare use your inteligence to know why were you brought to life and what are you supposed to do.. we didn't come to life to just eat drink work sleep and die or we would be animals use ur intelligence 2 know why are u existing first.

    If this lady has read Bible, Torah and Quran I will seriousely her ideology, I am now in the stage in reading Quran after finished Bible and torah and realized that I missed so much before i learned what I learned and now found my peace of mind in Islam and convert to it happily and have no shame to do I had the evidences and the prouves that it is what everybody should follow..I hope people may get to what I get too and find the real happiness..good luck with Buddism.

  9. LMRA177 says:

    Well note that as long as you stay far away from your real creator.. your God.. the creator of the whole universe, the one who made you what you are right now and not something else.. note you will just be wasting your time and energy in some sterile ideologies.. why don't you take what God give you in your Bibles and Torahs and Qurans to make your mind peaceful.. all those techniques exists in these books that existed before budah long time ago..

    @gregoryptm
    I hope you find the peace you are looking for, bro, wherever that can be.

  11. gregoryptm says:

    @swapvid guess what the ven robina courtin sources vajra sattva to newbies without a warning label, and now I really get why peeps in DS hate her. check out my video on her CHICANERY and how she did not answer my emails when I was NINE DAYS INSIDE a Vajra Sattva meditation that took me to the edge of Samsara with NO FUCKING DATA about what it was about. She's a WACK JOB LUNATIC, IMHO.

    I see you dressed as you perceive yourself, those who do not wish to have others perceive who they are as something, wouldn't show by impression, rather than by who you are.
    Thus as a teacher I wouldn't want to dress as anything but that which I am.
    Blue jeans and a t shirt, why be in a costume of any sort to be something?
    Or be called a name, than what we were given at birth. I am Not a monk or a man or a goat, but Tony.
