I have a friend that's been diagnosed with severe depression. he says he doesn't need any drugs to keep it under control.
Depression is a clinical illness which causes physical and biochemical changes in the sufferer. There are two treatment modalities: medication and therapy- often used in combination. Depression is a misunderstood illness, one cannot will depression away anymore than a person can will congestive heart failure or cancer away. The confusion lies in the fact that we all have life experiences that cause sadness. Severe depression is not sadness though it may mimic the same symptoms. Tell your friend to get help immediately. There really is no reason to suffer unnecessarily. a short course of anti-depressant medication could put him back on course. Remember, if he does decide to take an anti-depressant medication, it can take a couple of weeks before he'll start feeling better. I speak from first-hand experience on this. he is lucky he has a friend who recognizes his problem and who cares. You may have to repeatedly point out the facts to him before he'll listen. just remember that caring goes a long way. P.S. There are many resources on line. Search: how to help someone you love with depression, for example.
I have had depression and anxiety since I was twelve and was shortly after diagnosed with bi polar disorder, I went years and years on medications and going through all kinds of crap to seek relief. I got pretty frustrated and never had a lot of faith in being effectively treated. I told this to a friend who sent me to a lady named Karen at http://angelichealingclinic.com and after a couple of her Reiki clinics I was incredibly relieved and actually had learned some personal techniques to control the most serious of the anxiety.
Technically yes. if that person has a strong will and is able to keep them self in check. it is important that they are able to recognize their symptoms of depression and be able to mentally do whatever it is that they need to do to counter that. though medication can help, many people who are depressed do not like how the drugs make them feel, so me may just not want to take the drugs.
NO!!! and it could be very dangerous!
I am searching through questions trying to help people find this site that I found for my son.
It has dramatically changed his life. he is only 15 but there is a huge difference in him.
Please ask your friend to think about this site and give it a try. if he doesn't want to... you need him to get on here and post a question like you did.. he will be bombarded with answers and maybe then he will believe he has to take the meds.
I cant say it enough...
It is very dangerous not to treat depression... one way or another
Yes because i am doing it.
Drugs are the worst thing if you want to recover.
The Human will is a very strong thing. it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were possible.
Can a person control severe depression without the aid of antidepressants?
