Can teens get depression for no obvious reason?

What are some symptoms of teen depression?
My sisters daughter is acting different, and we are concerned she might be depressed. Her grades are slipping, and she has been locking herself in her room all night. she isnt acting like herself and she seems sad all the time. and she wont talk to anybody about why she is upse.she hardly ever eats to. could she be depressed? Should she see a doctor?

Probably. might need to take some meds if things get too bad. I take meds myself... lexapro. Just keep a watch over things.

Yes she is depressed and she should see a doctor. I know because my son had the EXACT symptoms as you describe and he is now on medication. Please get her some help.

theres always a reason... if you want to give up and write it off without trying... blame hormones or puberty and medicate her.
