Do all anti anxiety and depression medication make you gain weight?

i absolutely cannot gain weight but i need them now because i cannot handle my life any longer!!
do they all make you gain weight?
also, what side effects do some of them have if you don't gain weight?

....it seems to me like these meds fix one thing and mess up another.

They don't all make you gain weight. Zyprexa will make you gain. Prozac made me lose weight, but I found out I can't take it because it gives me terrible headaches. you just have to keep trying until you get the medicine that works for you. if you wait until the doctor prescribes the medicine and you pick it up from the pharmacy they give you a list of possible side effects of the medicine and if you notice that you are having any of them then you talk to the doctor and say you need to change your medicine.

The weight issue is very individual. Take prozac for example, some keep exactly the same weight, some people gain a few pounds, whilst other people completely lose their appetite and lose a stone. Also, the drug that may have made someone gain weight in the past may well allow them to lose weight in the future. Its very much the luck of the draw, and quite possibly to do with the natural chemicals present in your body as well.

Personally, i would say fix the anxiety and depression first before worrying about weight, your mental wellbeing is far more important than a few pounds here and there.
I know that may sound cruel, but believe me, once you feel better, even if you do gain weight, you will feel more enthused to change routine in order to lose it again.

Sometimes, st. johns wort and 5htp can help with some depression with fewer side effects.
As for the meds side effects, theres potentially a ton, (just googled fluoxetine:
Allergic or Toxic - Rash, Pruritus (skin inflammation)
Neurological - Headache, Tremor, Dizziness, Asthenia
Behavioral - Insomnia, Anxiety, Nervousness, Agitation, Abnormal dreams, Drowsiness and fatigue
Autonomic - Excessive sweating
Gastrointestinal - Nausea, Disturbances of appetite, Diarrhea
Respiratory - Bronchitis, Rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal mucous membranes), Yawning
Endocrine - Weight loss
Musculoskeletal - Muscle pain, Back pain, Joint pain
Urogenital - Painful menstruation, Sexual dysfunction, Urinary tract infection, Frequent micturition
Miscellaneous - Chills )

but again, depends on you as an individual, and its highly unlikely youd get them all- just a handful + the feeling better part. I think you have to weigh up the temporary consequences versus the long term pros of taking them.
And, some meds may be terrible, whilst others fantastic.

I would strongly suggest you go have a chat with your doctor, tell them your concerns. they have your medical history and can recommend the best drug for you, whereas someone on Y!A is just wildly guessing which would be best. The doctor will tell you exactly what side effects could result from a specific drug, plus, if after you try it and it doesnt suit you, it can always be changed for another one, if thats what you want.
Remember, you are the most important person here- the doctor is doing their job, and that is to help you as best they can, after all, thats what they get paid for!!!
The best advice i can give you is to be completely honest with your doc, the more information you can give them, the better the result will be for you. if necessary, write down your concerns so if you get flustered, (i know its difficult to pour your heart out to a doctor, but again, try to think of the long term benefits) you can remember them during your appt.

Best of luck to you.
