Do psychologists like to use anti depressants in depression treatment?

Along with counselling do psychologists like to use medication aswell? I know they can't prescribe meds but do they refer you to a psychiatrist? After how many sessions do you think it would take for a psychologist to know you need meds?or not?

Yea i believe so ive been in therapy for 6months and my therapist refered me to a psychiatrist who prescribed anti-depressants because they both believed that for depression to be fully treated you needed a combination of talk therapy&meds.Usually a mental evaluation is done and from there they can decide if medication is needed right away or not.
