94 year old cook, author and great grandmother, Clara, recounts her childhood during the Great Depression as she prepares meals from the era. Learn how to make simple yet delicious dishes while listening to stories from the Great Depression. Couscous was Clara's father, Giuseppe Bonfani's, absolute favorite recipe. Clara recreates the recipe that Giuseppe's sister brought all the way back from Africa via Tunis, Tunisia. The recipe can also be found in Clara's new book "Clara's Kitchen", available everywhere.

n'importe quoi depuis quand on prépare le couscous en tunisie de cette façon???????????c'est la méthode algérienne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol
I LOVE these shows, so I hope no one takes it personally if i mention that the arabic is wrong. It should be right to left, and the letters should be connected into script
i wish all old ladies were as sweet as Clara
I come to this place everyday just to unwind. The theme music and just listening to Clara makes me feel so relaxed after a hard and stressed day at work. Never tried your recipes yet, but thanks for having this here.
What a great stress buster just listening to your stories and the simplicity of the cooking. I wouldn't want to deal with the depression like you had to, but people back in your day were just so kind and thoughtful of one another.
Wish it was like that today.
@jojococoa;
The women has been cooking for 80 years, she's been alive for 94 years, I think she knows what to do and how to do it. You do things your way, Clara will continue to do things her way, like the past 94 years.
your gonna cut yourself if you keep cutting vegetables like that. and cous cous takes like 5 minutes to make not 2 hours! you don't need to steam it like that. just use a little broth from the veges.
What a joy to watch you Clara you make me smile xo
@stdrange people usually had knives and whetstones in those days
in other words...they sharpened their own knives lol
Great stories.Thank you CLARA:)))
You make me smile Clara.
I loved you on the "Daily Show" Clara! I hope that the media is not bothering you or your family though.
I loved your stories about your grandfather and father. That photo of the handsome man...which one was that? Did you ever meet any of the relatives who may still be in Tunis? (for Clara and Chris) That would be cool to find them huh? I love this recipe! God Bless you Clara and I hope you are here for a long time. (and Bless your grandson for bringing you here to the Internet!) Peace!
Love this video on cooking couscous. What a sweetheart Clara is! I want to be her granddaughter, cooking side by side with her in the kitchen, while she tells these stories. Delightful!
I love couscous my grandmother made it for me with feta cheese it is the best and it took me two minutes but I could also make it like you made it.
@stdrange
That's one thing...but today is a different story!
Fantastic job on the Daily Show!!
What if you couldn't afford sharp knives in the depression?
Nice to see the proper way to prepare couscous, and of course even nicer to see Clara present this cooking method.
