How can I get rid of depression symptoms while waiting for the medicine to take effect?

My insurance does not cover the cost of counseling, so how can I get rid of the depression symptoms or diminish them when I am too tire to exercise? There is one person that I talk to on the phone every week who is the only person I found can make me feel better, but talking to her only once a week does not seem to be enough, and she is not a counselor, or doctor of any kind.

1) Write your thoughts down - it helps enmorously as you are getting the fears and negative thoughts 'out of your system'.
2) Exercise.
3) Listen to upbeat exercise.
4) Be aware that what you feel inside is NOT how the outside world sees you - depression is altering your perception of yourself and outside situations.
5) DO NOT be paranoid - be aware that this stage will pass and the negative stuff you feel is made 'bigger' by your internal mental state.
6) Undertake a hobby to build up your self - esteem.
7) Talk to the samitarians if you need help in your darkest patches.
8) USE to the internet to GOOD effect - join an on line discussion group with like minded people who you can relate to.

If you are self-motivated and willing to work on helping yourself.... Get a copy of the book titled been There, Done That? do this! by Sam Obitz and start doing the exercises in it. The one that helped me the most is called the TEA form and it helps a lot when you get the hang of doing them.

Medication did very little in helping my depression. As has been mentioned, exercise will only do good for you and your symptoms. but above all, the most important thing you can do to beat your depression is to change your thinking styles. For starters I would recommend educating yourself on what depression really is (there are a lot of misconceptions), and that depression isn't caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain like many people would lead you to believe, but by our thoughts and emotional responses towards our lives. you have to change your thought patterns to beat it for good.

But it is no use me telling you all this here, as there is much to learn. There are many great websites that discuss this in detail. this one in particular is very good - it helped me immensely: http://www.clinical-depression.co.uk/lea…

Hope this helps you and best of luck.
