How can you tell if a person is on meth vs Bipolar manic episode

I have a friend who has the behavior of either of these he has a hx of depression. he also drinks. he is not willing to get help. I know to stay away from him because he's out of control behavior. of course as a friend I hate to see him lose everything he's work so hard to achieve. can someone please tell me what a meth person looks like. He's lost over 50 lbs in several months he does eat. He's grandiose in non stop talking Has been involved with law was hospitalized once and d/c w/ sleeping meds and risperdol for agitation nothing for bipolar. he drinks everyday wine beer vodka. so what's going on here?

This website has the symptoms of a meth user. It is possible that someone who is bi-polar may try drugs to alleviate the pain they are feeling. could be both really, but I doubt you will be able to diagnose this on your own.
