How do I help someone with clinical depression?

I think my friend might have clinical depression, but he refuses to seek any medical help when I suggest it. Is there anything else I can do for him?

  1. Nils baby sister says:

Lend an ear...a shoulder to cry on, be supportive emotionally.....and encourage he does seek help to get better and move forward, maybe go along with him if he is ok with that......sometimes people can get out of an episode of depression without outside help, it takes time and support from loved ones.

Go out for some walking and get some natural sun-rays and physical fitness to help get rid of stress. The good walking will bring those endorphins to his health again and help clear his depression. Although he should be taking something else from the doctor to help calm his depression down too. The walking will be good for both of you and you can enjoy each others company as an added benefit. You can also suggest he get into a good craft or hobby learning a skill like working with wood or making some sort of art that he enjoys doing. These things to do will help take him away from his thinking pattern and get him involved into a different learning and thinking skill. It is really worth a try. I do this when I get down with depression and it lifts my moral right up and I feel well again. Hope this will help you too.
