I am on two doctor-prescribed antidepressants (for yrs). Don't feel any better. Was involved in a study of depression at UBC and was 2nd most depressed in the group of 80. I hate feeling this way.
I have had a long battle with depression as well. its really hard and its only until recently that I have started to feel like I am getting more of a handle on my life. I highly recommend a book called "The Feeling good Handbook," I know the title sounds really cheesy but if you discipline yourself to read it and do the mental exercises described in the book it helps a lot. Exercise also REALLY helps. I would I know its hard to imagine exercising when you don't even want to get out of bed in the morning but it can help a lot. I also recommend seeing a therapist who specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy. The book is based on those principles and they are very effective. I am sorry you are dealing with this. its really awful and you just need to believe that you can and will get through it. good luck to you.
You also might need to have a frank conversation with your doctor and try medication that will work better for you. Too often people are left in limbo land. I'm also like you and I insisted on trying some other regime and in the process of changing it. Do not feel much better yet but I know it takes time to assess whether medication is beneficial.
Maybe you need a second opinion. Insist that you need something done. There are far more options available nowadays.
COGNITIVE therapy.....PLEASE, for your own good.
How does one change from being a life-long depressed person. Unipolar?
