I know someone who has been suffering from major depression for many years and is continually trying different treatment options, but nothing seems to work? Is there even a cure at all?
Does anyone have any kind of statistics?
No it stays with you for life. People say it can be cured with therapy and medications, because of wishful thinking - noone wants to lose hope do they - but I've never met a single person who completey recovered from clinical depression.
A person who suffers from clinical depression will never be cured, their symptoms can be controlled to the point where it will no longer bother the person but they will never fully recover from it. Medication is the best way to go with clinical depression, there are many medications out there for people with depression and each one will work differently for each person. So no, there is no (CURE), but you can manage and control the symptoms so you can live a happy, and health life.
Depression effects 19 million Americans in one year period, It affects so many people it is reffered to as the common cold of mental illness. 90 percent of people who seek treatment will feel better in a time period of 4 to 6 weeks, the other 10 percent can take up to 2 years to treat without any signs of their symptoms subsiding, but 98 percent of people diagnosed with severe depression do feel better at the end of a two year treatment, (meds and therepy).
It's all about lifestyle. Many people do not get in the right vitamins and minerals and eat toxic foods (processed grains, meat that has hormones and antibiotics, and processed sugars). Omega-3's and b vitamins are wonderful for mental health. Omega 3's can help the mind the same way depakote or litium work. Also, most depressed people do not get the right amount of exercise and fresh air.
Well it can't be cured if u have no hope. Its not only a chemical imbalance its a way of thinking. Granted maybe u were thinking fine before that imbalance struck but then once u get used to feeling down then the longer it goes on the more u feel that way. I like to look at depression the same way u look at someone in prison. Say they get 2 yrs in prison they do there time and love life when they get free. But when u r there for 20 yrs(a long period of time)u become instatutanlized.well we can become instatutanlized to our brains. If we feel a certain way too long then we get to used to it and its all we know. Depression is a problem. All problems have a solution. Sometimes working out the problem may be on a 2nd grade level and sometimes on a NASA level. So don't give up. Its sad but a lot of couslers don't help. But when finding the right one they can work miracles. So encourage them to keep seeking. Same goes for medicine. The right one is different for everyone. Remember if that person seems suicidal tell the that suicide is a permanant solution to a temporary problem.there's power in prayer and digging in the Bible can really help. God Bless.

A real answer would be a random guess. None of us are able to take a tally of how many people are homeless.
