I am interested in what some of the symptoms of depression are?

And would loosing a persons livelihood cause it? If so, how do doctors treat it and what are the side effects if Medication is used?

I have been suffering from depression for a number of years now and here's what some possible symptoms are:

You are very irratible
You have lost interest in the things you used to like
You become lazy
You can't sleep
Eating schedule is off
You tend to like solitude

Medication can work, but some side effects may include weight gain, hair loss, and loss of sleep.

Consult a doctor and be a better friend to yourself. Just no that you are not going through this alone.

symptoms of depression
sadness lasting over 6 months
fatigue
change in appetite
moodiness
agitation
loss of interest in activites

Yes, I think losing one's livlihood could cause it - like a situational depression

Doctors treat it with anti-depressants and recommend therapy for the person.

Side effects: differ from medication to medication - some are weight gain or loss, nausea. It would be good to read the package insert on the medication or look it up on-line

Yes, it would cause depression. It could be short lived.
It's feelings of hopelessness, loss of appetite, loss of interests, sleeping to little or to much, not enjoying things you used to.
Doctors give anti-depressants which are safe. Sometimes you have to try more than one to find the one that will work for you. It also takes about 3-4 weeks to get used to the meds. That's when the side-effects mainly occur. after that you should be better or need something different. Some side effects are sleepiness, dizzy, dry mouth, sleeplessness, weight gain, etc.
