Income supprort/DLA for friend with major depression servere anxiety ocd, bipolar disorder, meniere's disease?

My friend is 20 and is suffering from many disorders and diseases that make working and everyday life a struggle and can't be left alone for to long as he gets panicky, Rarely goes anywhere alone and is greatly effected by his problems but still has hope of one day getting some sort of job and spends a lot of days in bed or on the pc as he struggles to do anything else Would he be entitled to benefits ,he has:

Major depression disorder with nearly all symptoms daily

Severe anxiety with debilitating symptoms which he has over 40 symptoms and some to great extent

OCD that includes intrusive thoughts and excess hand washing and fear of germs or being near people in public which is a problem when working and going to strange or new places

Bipolar Disorder , hypomania although not often once or twice a month

Meniere's disease which causes mild deafness in one ear , feeling of unbalanced and dizziness and very bad nausea and is so debilitating that only sitting in bed or laying down or sleeping can make him feel more comfortable at times and takes medication for this, These spells happen 3 to 4 days of the week and last from 4 hours to a 5 days and can greatly impact his capability's during these attacks.

He lives off his parents income which he should not have to and they are struggling to support him Would he be entitled to Income support/DLA of some sort in the UK ? as he is in a very difficult situation that prevents him from working and going into the job Centre to collect job seekers allowance would be very difficult if not impossible for him to do fortnightly

Im very worried about him and so are his family what can he claim for , he takes medication for most of his illnesses

Is he aware of the latest treatments for Meniere's disease? View: http://www.webmd.com/brain/tc/menieres-d…

Use the effective natural core treatments for depression at * http://your-mental-health.8m.com/blank_2… and page B. Note that St. John's Wort may trigger mania/hypomania in bipolars, but SAMe has not been associated with this. I'm unaware of his medications, (some doctors prescribe antidepressants for bipolar disorder, which may cuase serotonin syndrome if used with SAMe) and how they would interact. see www.drugs.com & http://iguard.org and perform a Google check. View http://www.typeofdepression.org/Cause-Of… & http://curetogether.com/depression/ig/tr…

They all have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects as well as antidepressant ones, and anxiety is addressed on pages 1, & i at 8m.com. Passionflower (as directed, or 1 drop in a cup of warm water, 4 times daily; view http://altmedicine.about.com/od/anxiety/… ) may be helpful, short term. I'd avoid medications, except as a last resort, and even then, only use temporarily, as they don't address the causes, merely (imperfectly) treat the symptoms. Learn and employ the relaxation techniques (begin with Progressive Muscle Relaxation) and the EFT variant for use in public places, in case it is needed there.

OCD and panic attacks; see the posts on page 1, and then pages f, & h. see the post about mysophobia/germophobia on page v, and print, show, or refer him.

Advice from a published psychiatrist on controlled breathing: (1.) Get a clock, or watch with a second timer. (2.) Practise for 5 minutes, 4 times daily, until proficient. (3.) Take a small breath in, and hold it, for 6 seconds. (4.) think to yourself: "RELAX", just before breathing out. (5.) try to feel a sense of releasing tension, as you breathe out. (6.) Breathe in for 3 seconds, then out, for 3 seconds. try to make your breathing very smooth, and light, as you breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth, or nose. (7.) For the next minute, continue to breathe in, and out, every 3 seconds. (8.) go back to step 3, at the end of the minute, and proceed through to step 7, doing this for 5 minutes. Use this at the very first sign of a panic attack starting, or any time you feel anxious, or tense.
Call the appropriate govt. dept. and enquire, or find out which it is, and give him the contact info. Because of his lifestyle, location, and the season, I strongly suspect a vitamin D3 deficiency. View http://drbenkim.com/vitamin-d-facts.htm & http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articl…

They would expect him to claim Employment and Support Allowance or Job Seekers Allowance.
If he claims employment and support allowance he will attend a medical assessment at 13 weeks after he's claimed and will more than likely fail leaving him to either appeal the DWP or to claim Jobseekers Allowance instead. it is very hard to be "deemed" unfit to work with a mental illness and therefore majority of people claiming sick will end up on Jobseekers anyway. if he claims Jobseekers he will have to sign on and actively be seeking work.
It sounds Harsh but this is how the benefits system works now for people with mental health issues
good luck
x

Hi I do believe your friend would be entitled to Income Support and DLA.if your friend is under the local community mental team they will be able to help with the form filling but if not you can contact your local Mind Charity they will be able to point you in the right direction to someone who will be able to help and he can also get an advocate who can help him voice his wishes and his parents might also be entitled to Carers allowance.I have suffered from mental health problems for nearly ten years now and understand how ignorant people can be and lonely it is too.Your friend is luckly to have you and I hope things work out for him in the future:)

sure he is going to have depression if he spends most of his time in bed and on his PC can you not see that is half of his problem.
he needs to get a job and get working that way it will take his mind off his depression and doing something will help his self esteem and help his body release natural endorphins into his blood stream that will make him feel better.
his parents need to give him some tough love and make him go and sign on, pandering to him is not doing him any good

I've tried claiming DLA on 5 seperate occasions, however they have all been denied - completely ignoring the fact that I was considered a danger to society and myself, I am now on jobseekers being forced to get a full time job which is more than likely to end up making me worse.

I have:
Depression(Bi-Polar/Manic/Clinical), Schizophrenia, low Muscle Tone, Sociopathy and various underlying conditions.

See the sources for a checklist. it will tell you if there is any point in you bothering to make a claim at all. see? Arn't the government thoughtful?

He will be entitled to disability living allowance.I suffer from similar problems especially anxiety and depression and I have to get DLA.Im 17.Im not sure how you go about getting it as my mum basically did it all for me.Goodluck! And best wishes to your friend,I know how horrible it feels I spend days unable to leave bed x
