Is depression during pregnancy normal?

I am 22 weeks and I have suddenly began to feel extremely depressed. It seem as though when I experience those feelings my baby begin to move around alot. So my questions are do my feelings affect my baby and is it normal to develop feelings of depression during pregnancy?

With the amount of hormones you have when your pregnant, your moods can be quite crazy. I know what you mean though, I felt like I was very depressed for awhile earlier in my pregnancy. You should talk to your doctor about it because stress really isn't good for the baby. Which would answer your other question, yes, your feelings/emotions do affect your baby. when you are stressed, your baby feels it and when your happy, your baby is happy. Try as best as you can to keep away from stress and be happy. just think about when your baby comes and how exciting everything will be. think happy thoughts!

I do suggest talking to your doctor about it though, in case you really do have depression and it's not just your hormones going crazy. when your pregnant, things that make you upset normally will make it feel like it's the end of the world.

It's one of the many things no one tells you about. Many women experience depression during pregnancy, and sometimes it is nothing. other times, it is definitely something you should talk to your physician about.

I didn't experience it with my first two pregnancies, but all of a sudden at 4 months with my 3rd pregnancy, I was severely depressed. I literally cried so much it scared me, and I just all of a sudden wasn't happy. I loved being pregnant and had planned the baby, so I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me.

So I went to the doctor and explained. I couldn't even get it out without bawling like a baby. she put me on some medication, that I took until I was eight months pregnant. While antidepressants are not recommended during pregnancy, the need for them outweighed the risk at the time.

My son had no ill affects, that I am aware of, and is a wonderful nine year old today. I, on the other hand, would have probably been committed or something if not for the meds. I was really overwhelmed and didn't know why. Hormones were to blame of course. there was apparently some type of chemical imbalance.

good luck to you, I hope you're okay.

depression is completely normal in pregnancy. it is the horomones. but some women need meds for it. does it affect your baby? yes it can. any type of stress can affect your baby, just like after the baby is born. if you are having alot of concerns about, you should speak with your dr. to see what they say. congrats and good luck

i felt the exact same way im 39 weeks pregnant and finally spoke to my doctor about it only 3 weeks ago, having felt that way since i was around 25 weeks. and he diagnosed me with depression, he told me it was completely normal as we are going threw hormonal changes and our bodies are changing, make sure if you keep feeling this way to talk to your doctor i left it too long to be able to get the courage to tell the doctor cause i felt embarrassed. there are safe depression tablets to take during pregnancy, don't wait for it to get worse like i did talk to your doc :)
