Is Pot a Medicinal treatment for Bipolar symptoms?

A certain entertainment figure said they used Pot to treat their Bipolar symtoms. Seems to me that it would make the situation worse. And having read what others have defined Bipolar disorder to be (manic depression etc.) I cannot help but wonder.

Only when YOU want it to be!!!!!!!!

Pot is a euphoriant and may calm down the more aggressive parts of being bi-polar

no its for kadaracks.

NO WAY
Pot will worsen the symptoms

no, pot is only used to ease the suffering in cancer patients.

I dont know but if you find out let me know

i don't believe that is a medical condition that pot is used to treat...the only thing that it may have helped was to calm this person down during a manic state, but it would not be a long time effect, if one at all...

I never heard this, but it does mellow you out so I would think it would lessen the effects of mania and depression, so it makes sense. The only thing is that it seems you would need to always be stoned in order for this to work.

pot can help many things i know several people using pot for many different problems and it helps. it helps me with my back and leg, i also get meds from the VA but the weed helps it work better.

The only benefit I could see for a bi-polar sufferer smoking pot, would be that it might make them a bit lethargic, thus they might be less likely to act out in a physically aggressive manner. Other than that, I'd say there would be no real benefit of them smoking it. Most likely this celebrity was trying to rationalize their smoking of weed and used the one thing they figured would garnish some sympathy.

Think about it, if someone had badmouthed them for smoking weed and they claimed they only did so to help with their bi-polar symptoms, whether it's true or not, the person would look fairly mean spirited to sit there and continue to berate the celebrity or argue whether there's any real benefit from their smoking of pot.

Yes, some Doctors (with questionable judgement) and some patients (also with questionable judgement but excused for their impairment) may think Pot or mariguana may be used for treatment of Bipolar Disorder. However, it has to be legal to do so. In Mendocino County, California that was the case until a few years ago. I believe laws changed since and is no longer legal to use the drug for medicinal purposes. I speak from personal experience, where the Doctor had a questionable reputation and the unfortunate patient did not get any better. Bipolar disorder or manic-depresion can not be cured, to my knowledge, and at best in can only be controled with medicines that may be required regularly and for life.

Pot is useless in treating bipolar disorder. There is one self-medication that seems to work - alcohol. Alcohol will generally depress the mind and is favored by undiagnosed bipolar individuals. It's a pretty bad way to go, though, as the side-effects are worse than the disease.

Actual medication is just about the only way to go.

Pot like literally kills your brain there is no way it could help with bipolar only make it worse.

I doubt it. Mary Jane causes allot of moodswings as it is. But if someone has stomach issues or under going chemo therapy. The nurses will tell you to make sure its EXTRA dry before smoking it. to prevent any mold or bacteria getting into your system. Husband survived Lymphoma and was made comfortable by taking bong rips!!! ~LEGALIZE~

Its hard to say. and i think a lot of it will have to do with your body chemistry.
it could go as far as creating mania to helping you sleep.
