I was reading Major Depression Disorder - Common Symptoms
Major depression changes a fully functional individual quite significantly. The common symptoms
are persistent feeling of sadness, irritation, lack of sleep, low appetite, loss of energy, slow movement,
agitation, withdrawal, guilt feelings, feeling of hopelessness, worthlessness and emptiness, suicidal
thoughts and attempts, persistent physical complications without any possible physical root.
i experiencing all Symptoms from 4-5 years
even i feel to don't talk to anyone and don't like to being alone too.
i feel like i don't have words when i started talking(so i avoid)
i don't want psychotherapy, or medication please suggest me treatment for this.
I am 21 year old.
I feel the same way...exercise is supposed to help and the good thing is that you can do that by yourself since it doesn't require being around people which I also do not like. I am going to try going for a walk every day and see if it helps me feel better. sometimes meds are needed...please get help.
Look up information about DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy). from what I understand it is a way to "re-train" your brain to react to stimuli by being aware of what you are feeling and why. You should be able to find DBT workbooks in any major bookstore.
But really, depression isn't something that goes away on it's own and it's pretty difficult and overwhelming to try to tackle it by yourself. Don't be afraid to get professional help.
i have the same exact thing, and it also seems like you suffer from abandonment issues when you explain that you do not wanna be alone, even though you dont wanna talk to people. I suggest writing down what you feel, either as a letter to yourself or poetry. Also if you feel comfortable with it, try talking to a close friend or relative about your feelings when you are down, that may help make you feel better getting it out. Exercise is also a great idea. It can really calm yourself and it does improve your emotions. one more thing, going out either for a drive or just a walk also helps if you feel trapped at home or stuck in a place where you want to leave. (If you want, there are herbal supplements that can also make you feel better, but i dont know if that would be one of the things for yo since you dont want medication; they come in a pill form but are completely natural, nothing like prescription drugs. just a thought). good luck!!
If your depression has lasted this long it is a biological disorder or disease just like diabetes or heart disease and requires medication. You need a correct diagnosis from a psychiatrist who can prescribe one of many antidepressants that will help you. There are no natural cures or skills that will solve this problem. I am sorry that you don't want to take medication but no matter what anybody on this site tells you it requres professional intervention. You don't want to continue spending your life with this when you don't have to suffer. There is no treatment but medications that will help you. You can try whatever skills that others may suggest but they won't stop the depression. I hope that you will get the help you need and recover.
If you've had this essentially your whole life, like me, and it's that severe, you probably can't treat it without medication. Exercise, fresh fruit and vegetables, etc, can help with mild to moderate depression, but they'll barely make a dent in severe clinical depression. I struggled with it my whole life as well and it's only been bearable since I went on medication.
you have different treatment for depressions:
Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment for depression. The goal of CBT is to help the patient effect a change in their state of mind by teaching them how to look at life from a positive perspective and how to reward themselves for experiencing pleasure and accomplishment. Cognitive behavior therapy helps depressed people gain new insight, feel better, and improve their mood.
Cognitive therapists believe that causes for depression are low self-esteem; the inability to set rational, achievable goals; and pessimism. Once the patient learns to identify stressful, anxiety-inducing situations, they can implement effective coping strategies rather than become depressed. In this way, they learn to manage the stress that once caused depression.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy also treats depression as a manifestation of cognitive-behavioral dysfunction and its goal is to change self-perception and behavior.
Psychoanalytic therapists rely on suggestion, hypnosis, and reeducation to reform self-esteem, and helps the person construct coping strategies to deal with grief, sadness, disappointment, achievement, and pleasure. Psychotherapy is usually combined with antidepressant medication in the treatment of depression.
Electroconvulsive Therapy
There is controversy surrounding the use of ECT, primarily because many patients who receive the treatment suffer short-term, and sometimes permanent, memory loss. Use of ECT is reserved for patients with chronic depression who do not respond to antidepressant medications, and patients who suffer severe depression and are in danger of harming themselves and/or others.
ECT increases monoamine neurotransmitter (i.e., serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine) levels in the brain, which improves neurotransmission and elevates mood. ECT produces this effect almost immediately and neurotransmitter levels increase with each ECT treatment. Psychomotor retardation, diminished appetite, and insomnia, which are associated with moderate and severe depression, also may improve with ECT.
A physician determines if symptoms require hospitalization. The decision is based on observations of the following:
* does the person appear to be taking care of him- or herself?
* does the person understand the situation?
* does the person have a family support system?
* is the person suicidal or dangerous to others?
* Are extended diagnostics needed for evaluation?

Depression - caused by chemical imbalances of serotonin, and other important neurotranmitters which balance emotions is a serious issue. Psychologists state that depression is a unhealthy state which we 'can' work through in order to experience greater levels of happiness. some who daily experience deep chronic depression may require both prescribed medication along with 'Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy {M.B.C.T.') provided by Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapists and there are some who experience chronic-but not deeply chronic depression who work well with M.B.C.T. alone. Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD along with Psychologists Mark Williams, John Teasdale, and Zindel Segal have authored an excellent self-help book called: "The Mindful Way through Depression: Freeing yourself from Chronic Unhappiness". Mindfulness, a simple yet powerful way of paying attention to your most difficult emotions and life experiences, can help you break the cycle of chronic unhappiness once and for all, that you may experience greater levels of happiness. In 'The Mindful Way through Depression', it is explained why our usual attempts to "think" our way out of a bad mood or "just snap out of it" leads us deeper into the downward spiral of depression. Through very insightful lessons-drawn from both mindfulness meditative practices and cognitive therapy - Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD and Psychologists- Mark Williams, John Teasdale, and Zindel Segal demonstrate how to sidestep the negative habits that lead to unhappiness and despair, including self-blame and rumination so you can effectively face life's challenges with much resilience.

Does that almost mean that just saying no prevents date rape the way 'Have a nice day' prevents chronic depression?
Nope it's not suicidal thoughts at all. Some people are just naturally curious about how things will end. Especially if they are religious at all.

"The cognitive-behavioral perspective, which is similar to Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, proposes changing the way we view life to become happier."
