my husband is in the military and we are living overseas.I think I have post partum depression. How would this affect his career? will my diagnosis go on his record? would they send me home early?

Are you in the military or is he?

If you aren't one to nag your husband it shouldn't affect him much. but if you are it could make it bad for him at work everyone would know about it and it could keep him from being promoted. but no it will not get him out early. Go to the doctor and get it taken care of.

I'm not sure if they would send you early (as the other answered wondered if you're serving too). I don't know anything about military policies re: spouse's medical records, but I would think you'd be covered under his health care benefits since you're married. I'm assuming you live on a base, so there should be someone there who specializes in treating mental illness who can treat your post partum depression. What really matters is that you get this treated. I wouldn't worry so much about his record. good luck.

Your health issues would not go on his record and should not affect his career. I also do not know of anyone being sent home because their spouse has a medical issue. Post partum depression is a serious health condition and you may need to speak with your physician about what is going on with you. be open with your spouse and work through it as a team. you may need therapy or medication to help you but if it changes your outlook on life then it will be worth it. good Luck!

ok so i know what you are going through?! and it sucks... with the post partum i mean. I am very sorry to hear that. anyway i have read about alot of ways to get them send you home from over there... (obviously trying to get a loved one home) any ways if your post partum goes untreated it can be really harmful for you and you you child/children. so unless you are willing to let them see that you are seeing a shrink (not saying they would know what for) then you cant use military insurance. but it is really helpful if your husband is around alot more, and i am sure that your doctor would probably say the same thing. so if you are trying to come home, and the doctor said it would be benificial. he might actually get out of serving. if your husband likes being in the military and you want to stay overseas I think you should be fine unless you request to go home.
