did you know that in UK and Canada :Women who kill their infant children will rarely be convicted of murder if symptoms of postpartum depression are allowed to be used as a defense

I'm guessing it's because postpartum depression is a real defense, for women who are actually suffering from it? Just like the people who are convicted for murder and plead insanity, while not always the case, some are legitimately insane and don't see the wrong in their actions. while I of course don't condone what they do, in most cases I believe that it's fairly safe to assume that had the mothers been in their normal state of mind they would not have done it. It's not like they're using the defense of postpartum depression for why they went and shot up a bank or something, it's related.

Obviously if PPD is used as a defense as much as it is, its a real problem. you must not understand how out of control women's hormones get right after they have a child. its obviously a real serious thing if there are support groups, and medications, etc...for it.

Infantcide equals women who kill their children? never knew that - thought it meant unnatural death of an infant by anyone.
